Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 27, 2026
Maldomedia LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the useby mobile application ("App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use useby.
Our Commitment
Your data is never sold. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Data collected through useby exists to improve the product for you, not as a revenue stream.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
When you create an account or use useby, you may provide:
- Account information: display name, email address, and password
- Profile information: avatar image, notification preferences, child safety mode setting
- Inventory data: products you scan or add manually, including barcodes, expiration dates, quantities, storage locations, and item types
- Workspace information: workspace name and member invitations
- Shopping list data: items you add to your shopping list
- Feedback: messages, feature requests, or bug reports you submit through the in-app feedback form
Information Collected Automatically
When you use the App, we may automatically collect:
- Device information: device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for push notification delivery
- Push notification tokens: tokens provided by Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), used solely to deliver notifications you have opted into
- Usage data: features used, scan activity, and interaction patterns, collected in aggregate to improve the App
Information from Third Parties
When you scan a product barcode, we may retrieve product information from Open Food Facts and other publicly available databases. This data (product name, image, ingredients, nutritional information) is associated with your inventory but originates from third-party sources.

How We Store and Protect Your Data
Data Storage
Your account data, inventory, and personal information are stored on Supabase, a cloud database platform with encryption at rest and in transit. Authentication tokens on your device are stored using encrypted secure storage (SecureStore on iOS and Android). Product and recall cache data is stored on our application server hosted by WebHostPython.
Security Measures
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS) for all communications
- Row Level Security (RLS) policies ensuring users can only access their own workspace data
- JWT-based authentication on all API endpoints
- Encrypted session storage on your device
- Rate limiting to prevent abuse
While we take reasonable precautions, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: We use Supabase for database and authentication services, Expo for push notification delivery, and a third-party SMTP provider for transactional emails. These providers process data solely to deliver their services to us.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request.
- Safety: We may share information if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of our users or the public.
- Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.
Workspace Data Sharing
useby uses a workspace model where members of the same workspace can see shared inventory, shopping lists, and recall information. When you join or create a workspace, other workspace members can view inventory items, expiration dates, and shopping list data within that shared workspace. Each user controls their own notification preferences independently.
Push Notifications
Push notifications are sent only with your explicit consent. You can enable or disable push notifications at any time through the App settings or your device settings. We use push notifications for:
- Expiring product reminders (based on the timeframe you configure)
- Recall alerts matching products in your inventory
- Child safety recall alerts (if enabled)
Push notification tokens are stored securely and used solely for delivering notifications you have opted into.
Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Lifecycle event data (scan history, item additions, status changes) is retained for twelve (12) months and then automatically deleted. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data from our active systems within a reasonable timeframe, subject to any legal obligations that may require us to retain certain data.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data and account
- Data portability: Request your data in a commonly used, machine-readable format
- Opt-out: Opt out of any marketing communications (we do not currently send marketing emails)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@useby.app.
California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your personal information, and opt out of the sale of your personal information. As stated above, we do not sell personal information. To exercise your California privacy rights, contact us at support@useby.app.
Children's Privacy
useby is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at support@useby.app and we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
useby includes a child safety mode feature that provides additional recall alerts for children's products. This feature is controlled by the adult account holder and does not involve collecting data from children.
Third-Party Services
The App may contain links to third-party websites or services (such as manufacturer recall pages or government agency websites). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through the App.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy within the App or on our website, or by sending you an email. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was most recently revised. Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
